7、送与奖的哲学
学校聘请一位外籍教师教学生口语。一次，老外买回一大袋小地球仪，准备当奖品发给学生。一个老师的小孩看见，便想请他送一个玩玩。他不肯。小孩把当老师的母亲请来。同事不好意思开口，便让我“代劳”。
我对老外说：“这是本校老师的孩子，你送他一个吧，反正你的地球仪最后都要送出去的。”他仍然不肯。我“开导”他：“中国是礼仪之邦，中国人讲究一个‘情’字，送礼是联络感情的重要方式。你在中国任教，要入乡随俗。一个小地球仪不值什么，但作为礼品送出去，那就是礼轻情义重。”到这个份上，他仍坚定地摇着头。我生气了：“你真不给面子，一个小地球仪值多少钱?现在人家求到我，你不给，人家会认为我没尽力。”
老外想了想，说：“你让那小孩说5个单词，我就给他一个。”这不是成心为难人吗?一个上幼儿园的小孩，哪会说什么英语?但是，既然老外肯送了，那就赶紧想办法吧。好在小孩很伶俐，一教就会，不到5分钟，5个英语单词全会说了。老外除了白送一个地球仪，还高兴地低下头，亲亲小孩的脸。
这让我很纳闷：与其如此，何必当初?我问他为什么多此一举?他说：“白送东西给人，是对人的一种侮辱。因为‘送’的意味是施舍，即把对方当成乞丐;而那小孩很可爱，决不应该侮辱他。只是在别人取得成绩时，我们才能把东西送给他，这是对人的一种鼓励。作为一个教师，永远只能‘奖’不能‘送’。”
我的心里一下子装满了敬意。
8、“破天荒”的由来
唐时荆州文人荟集，但每年解送考生，都考不取一个进士。于是，人们称荆南地区为“天荒”，把那里解送的考生称作“天荒解”。后来在唐宣宗大中四年(850)，有个叫刘蜕的，由荆州解送而考中了进士，人们就称这件事为“破天荒”。荆州刺史崔铉奖给刘蜕70万贯“破天荒”钱。刘蜕写感谢信说：“五十年来，自是人废;一千里外，岂曰天荒?”
又有江西自宋初以来，没有考中状元的，直到绍圣四年(1097)才有新淦(今新干)人何昌言以对策(殿试答辩政事、经义)居第一，钦定状元。谢民师以诗寄昌言，诗中说：“万里一时开骥足，百年今始破天荒。”
9、真正的勇气
三名海军上将谈论什么是真正的勇气。?

10、打老婆后的意外经历
那天，与我同在加拿大渥太华留学、在渥太华大学读博士后的留学生李枫，与刚从中国来探视他的老婆陈秀隽，不知为什么，在一家超市购物的时候发生了口角。盛怒中，李枫打了陈秀隽一记耳光。陈秀隽哭着从超市跑出，李枫顿感后悔。其实，他俩的感情还是很好的。于是，陈秀隽在前面跑，李枫在后面一边喊一边追。
可加拿大人偏爱管这号闲事。看到有女人在前面边哭边跑，有男人在后面边喊边追，似有追打之态。于是，有人拿出手机，拨打了“911”，不到两分钟，两名全副武装的巡警便飞速赶到，当即将正在追赶老婆的李枫摁倒在地，并上了手铐。
陈秀隽大惊失色，回过头保护丈夫，反复向警察解释，说李枫是她的老公，要警察别管闲事。可她不懂英语，警察根本听不懂她在叫什么。李枫懂英语，他向警察解释说，她是我的老婆。可警察说，这有什么区别吗?
于是，李枫被抓到了警局，那位过路的报警人作为目击证人，作了笔录，李枫打人罪名成立，尽管青伤红伤均无，但李枫却还是被刑事拘留了。
李枫在牢里被关了3天，狱中的李枫焦躁不安，悔恨不已。此时的李枫正在申请绿卡，并尚未就业，如果有了不良记录，一切都会泡汤。一条不良记录，能让李枫断送大好前程，李枫能不如坐针毡?
3天后，警方通知陈秀隽，李枫可以保释。李枫被保释时，警方郑重告知李枫，出狱后必须与老婆陈秀隽保持300米以上的直径距离，否则会被认为仍有暴力倾向，会被再次逮捕入狱，并不得保释。于是，李枫不但不能回家与妻子团聚，就是想跟老婆说句话，都得隔着一条长300米以上的街道喊话。
由于检察机关认为李枫打人罪名成立，所以被提起公诉。在法庭上，作为证人的老婆陈秀隽坚决否认李枫曾打过她，仅仅是她脸上落了一只蚊子，丈夫为她拍打蚊子而已，至于丈夫在街上追她，是因为丈夫要证明给她看，他的手心上确有一只刚被打死的、带血的蚊子。
此事让那位好心的、英雄救美的目击证人恼怒不已，你们中国人怎么这样?
